Creating a Cleaner, Greener Environment

Why is this a priority for Rochdale Borough
The quality of the local environment and
tackling global environmental issues is a high priority for
residents. Rochdale Borough is one of the greenest parts of Greater
Manchester with some of the most visited areas of natural beauty
and ecological value but only 22% of households have close access
to good quality green space.
- Public satisfaction with cleanliness of
streets is only 65% and fly-tipping, graffiti and needles are
particular problems in deprived neighbourhoods
- 14% of pavements need repair.
- Our eco-footprint is 2.8 which means if
everyone in the world lived like we do, we would need 2.8 planet’s
worth of resources.
- Just over half (50.24%) of vulnerable
households in the private sector live in non decent homes. There
are proven links between poor housing, poor health and poor
educational attainment.
